William Mew (1742-1813)
- was born about 1742, presumably on the Isle of Wight.
- probably worked as an agricultural labourer.
- died at Rancombe Farm in Shorwell parish, aged 71, and was buried at Carisbrooke on 11th June 1813.
- married Jane Rogers (daughter of Edward Rogers and Catherine Langtree) at Godshill in 1765.
- had eleven children:
- Jane Mew was christened at Brighstone on 14th January 1770.
- Catherine Mew was christened at Brighstone on 16th February 1772. She had a base-born son, Abraham, at Brighstone in 1794.
- Mary Mew was christened at Brighstone on 27th March 1774. She had a base-born son, John, at Brighstone in 1794.
- Henry Mew was christened at Brighstone on 3rd March 1776.
- Christine Mew was christened at Brighstone on 15th November 1777.
- James Mew was christened at Brighstone on 25th September 1779.
- Isaac Mew was christened at Brighstone on 7th April 1782.
- Sarah Mew was christened at Brighstone on 6th June 1784.
- Emmanuel Mew was christened at Brighstone on 25th December 1786, but was buried there on 10th July 1787.
- Hannah Mew was christened at Brighstone on 25th December 1786 - twin sister to Emmanuel.
- Edward Mew (1788-1874).

Edward Mew (1788-1874)
- the youngest child of William Mew.
- was christened at Brighstone on 23rd March 1788.
- worked as an agricultural labourer at Rancombe Farm, Shorwell parish.
- died at Carisbrooke Workhouse on 25th September 1874, aged 87, of age and debility.
- married Hannah Groves (daughter of Benjamin and Martha Groves) at Shorwell on 6th August 1810.
- had six children:
- Jane Mew was christened at Shorwell on 16th December 1810.
- Frances Mew was christened at Shorwell on 15th November 1812. She married James Milmer at Shorwell on 24th December 1833.
- James Mew (1815-1859)
- Charles Mew was born at Rancombe and christened at Shorwell on 15th November 1818.
- Simon Mew was born at Rancombe and christened at Shorwell on 21st April 1822. He married Fanny Woods at Shorwell on 8th June 1848.
- Leah Mew was born at Rancombe and christened at Shorwell on 24th April 1825. She married George Cleverley at Shanklin on 23rd October 1844.

James Mew (1815-1859)
- the eldest son of Edward Mew.
- was born at Rancombe and christened at Shorwell on 17th September 1815.
- worked as an agricultural labourer, mainly at Gatcombe.
- died at Gatcombe on 27th December 1859, aged 44, of a fever.
- married Maria Cox (daughter of Richard Cox and Ann Sprake) at Shorwell on 20th May 1843.
- had eight children:
- Fanny Mew was born at Shorwell and christened there on 8th September 1844.
- Jane Mew was born at Shorwell and christened there on 28th December 1845. She married Thomas Henry Lee at Northwood on 7th October 1867.
- Ellen Mew was born at Shorwell and christened there on 13th August 1848.
- Eliza Mew was born at Gatcombe and christened there on 20th October 1850.
- George Henry Mew was born at Gatcombe and christened there on 4th September 1853.
- Frank Mew was born at Gatcombe and christened there on 8th April 1855. He enlisted forthe Volunteer Artillery Militia in 1871.
- Janet Mew was born at Gatcombe and christened at the Bible Christian Chapel, Chillerton on 30th August 1857. She married private William Arannah Austin at Carisbrooke on 21st August 1881.

James Henry (Harry) Mew (1859-1918)
- the youngest child of James Mew.
- was born at Garstons Lane, Gatcombe on 21st November 1859 and christened at Gatcombe on 15th January 1860.
- worked as a cement labourer, living at 5 Chalk Pit Terrace, off Carisbrooke High Street.
- died at 91 Hunnyhill, Newport on 24th April 1918,aged 59,of endocarditis and heart failure.
- married Jane Butcher (a widow, daughter of Thomas Chiverton and Mary Harding) at the Isle of Wight Register Office on 24th December 1881.
- had nine children (two of which were born before the marriage):
- Frederick Mew (1878-1918)
- Mary Jane Mew was born at Carisbrooke around 1881 and christened there, in illness, on 1st January 1896.
- James Henry Mew was born at Carisbrooke around 1883.
- Rosa Maud Mew was born at Carisbrooke around 1884 and christened there, in illness, on 6th April 1896.
- Charles Mew was born at Carisbrooke around 1886.
- Aubrey Mew was born at Carisbrooke around 1887.
- Florence Mew was born at Carisbrooke around 1889.
- Beatrice Mew was born at Carisbrooke around 1891.
- Elsie Mildred Mew was born at Carisbrooke around 1895 and christened there, in illness, on 29th January 1896.

Frederick Mew (1878-1918)
- the son of James Henry Mew. Although his mother was single and his father was not named on the birth certificate, he was registered as Frederick Mew Butcher.
- was born in Carisbrooke on 17th November 1878.
- worked as a stoker at Newport Gasworks.
- lived at Winton (No 55), Gunville Road, Carisbrooke.
- died at Gunville Road on 5th December 1918, aged 40, and was buried at Mount Joy Cemetery.
- married Florence Perkins (daughter of William George Perkins and Ellen Fleming) at St Thomas' parish church, Newport, Isle of Wight on 9th September 1901.
- had four children:

Percival Victor Mew (1908-1991)
- the son of Frederick Mew.
- was born on 5th August 1908.
- worked as a mechanic.
- married Doris Croucher (daughter of Arthur Croucher and Lucy Mary Milmore Beere) at Ryde on 23rd January 1936.
- had two children:
- Barbara Anne Mew, who married Roy Middlebrook.
- Diane Mew, who married Bruce Millmore and had four children - Sue, Joe, Rachel and Bobby.
